Analysis of Waste Reuse for Energy Production in Central Ohio
How might conversion of industrial waste streams into byproducts influence job creation and quality of life in Ohio? What are the pros and cons of investing in ethanol production from biomass, resulting in increased competition for land and crops? How can the State of Ohio reduce greenhouse gas emissions while sustaining economic growth? These are challenging questions that cut across traditional boundaries of analysis and require an integrated, multi-disciplinary perspective.
Millennium Institute (MI), in partnership with the Center for Resilience at Ohio State University (OSU) and the Solid Waste Authority of Central Ohio (SWACO), is developing a T21-Ohio model to address these questions.
T21-Ohio will be used to support regional Material Flow Analysis and Economic Input/Output analysis for the Central Ohio area. It will be linked to Eco-Flow™, a decision support model developed by the Center for Resilience to facilitate design and reconfiguration of industrial ecology networks to maximize profitability and waste reduction.
